ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Building a Strong Academic Foundation
The elementary years are a season of incredible transformation, establishing the essential groundwork for everything your child will achieve. Within our Elementary School, students don't just study reading, writing, and mathematics; they flourish into confident learners, growing in character and maturity every day. Rosehill Christian School offers more than a classroom; your student will join a vibrant, Christ-centered community where they are deeply known and uniquely loved.
Our elementary school (kinder-5th grade) curriculum is dedicated to forming a biblical worldview and fostering a joy for learning that lasts well beyond graduation. Below, you will find a brief overview of what we offer, including:
Elementary School Academics & Curriculum
Our Elementary School curriculum is thoughtfully curated to challenge the mind while nurturing the soul. By integrating premier academic resources with a biblical worldview and principles, we ensure that every student receives a balanced education and spiritual growth. From mastering the mechanics of language to exploring the complexities of God’s creation, our approach focuses on meeting individual needs through intentional, small-group instruction and hands-on discovery.
Our Core Curriculum Includes:
Literacy & Language Arts:
Phonics & Reading: We utilize ABeka Phonics (K–2) for strong decoding skills, transitioning into Guided Reading to provide differentiated, small-group instruction. In grades 3–5, students dive into Whole Novel Units to master literary analysis.
Writing & Expression: Students develop their unique voices using the 6+1 Writing Traits framework and refine their communication through BJU Grammar, Language, and Spelling.
Vocabulary & Literacy: We prioritize vocabulary development through high-quality literature to enhance fluency and expression.
Penmanship: Students develop fine motor skills through D’Nealian handwriting (K–2), with cursive instruction beginning in the second semester of 2nd Grade.
Mathematics:
Envision Mathematics: Our math program blends problem-based and visual learning. We utilize both whole-group and small-group instruction to ensure mathematical concepts are mastered at each student's individual pace.
Science & Social Studies:
BJU Science: Students explore the wonders of the natural world, shaping a worldview that recognizes and honors God’s hand in creation.
BJU Social Studies: We help students understand history and global cultures, viewing their place in the world as a purposeful child of God.
Bible & Spiritual Formation:
Bible Curriculum: Our foundational studies familiarize students with the Old Testament and its connection to Jesus Christ. We focus on what it truly means to live as a modern disciple of Christ.
Weekly Specials:
Music: Students become active participants in the world of melody and rhythm. Through a variety of instructional methods, they develop foundational musical skills by performing, listening, analyzing, and creating original works.
Visual Arts: Our art program is a hub for creative expression and personal challenge. As students explore different media, they strengthen fine motor skills, decision-making, and healthy risk-taking, all while discovering their own unique creative voice.
Technology & Keyboarding: Students master the fundamentals of computer care and coding while learning the vital principles of responsible digital citizenship. This course empowers them to use technology as a tool for both personal expression and modern communication.
Library & Media: We foster a lifelong love for reading by encouraging students to follow their curiosity. Students learn how to locate information, explore the world around them, and apply new knowledge to their daily lives.
Physical Education: Our PE program provides intentional instruction designed to build physical confidence and motor skills. We aim to equip every student with the knowledge and motivation to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle for a lifetime.
LEARNING OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
At Rosehill Christian School, we seek to ignite a love for learning by exploring God’s world firsthand. Every school year, each grade level enjoys two off-campus field trips designed to deepen their understanding of core subjects and meet TEKS objectives. We are pleased to provide these trips as a standard part of our program, included in tuition, so that our students can focus on the joy of discovery and the excitement of learning together in the community.
