Art

The journey through Middle and High School art at Rosehill is a season of bold discovery, where students are encouraged to test boundaries, take creative risks, and find their unique voice. We believe that behind every creative professional is a young adult who was inspired to express their faith and ideas through visual arts. By solving complex problems and mastering diverse techniques, our students learn to articulately celebrate beauty and transition from young learners into confident, purposeful creators.

Middle School Learning Objectives

  • Engage in two- and three-dimensional projects that balance artistic freedom with fundamental skill-building.

  • Refine technical proficiency through hands-on exercises in drawing, painting, printmaking, clay, and mixed-media design.

  • Compare and contrast diverse artworks to articulate a deeper understanding of how art relates to the world and the student's own identity.

  • Discover how the visual arts serve as a powerful and effective vessel for communicating personal thoughts, faith, and perspective.

High School Learning Objectives

  • Conduct a comprehensive study of art history, focusing on the visionary artists who took bold risks to inspire change and innovation.

  • Pursue continuous mastery in traditional media, including refined skill-building in drawing, painting, and professional-grade printmaking.

  • Expand creative boundaries by acquiring new skills in specialized media such as textiles, natural dyes, and metalwork.

  • Develop a distinct individual style through the creation of a personal portfolio that showcases the student's unique artistic voice.

Digital Art & Media

Students in this course examine the landscape of modern and contemporary art to better understand the role of media in today's culture. By integrating traditional artistic principles with cutting-edge technology, students develop the skills necessary to produce professional-grade new media and digital designs.

  • Social Media Design: Creating aesthetically driven content for modern digital platforms.

  • Photography & Editing: Learning the "eye" of the photographer and the "hand" of the editor to produce polished imagery.

  • Yearbook Journalism: Taking ownership of the RCS Yearbook, from the first photo to the final layout.

  • Storytelling: Developing the narrative skills required to turn a series of images into a cohesive story.

  • Graphic Innovation: Applying advanced design principles to create engaging and memorable visual media.
